Emraan Hashmi Reveals He Never Wanted To Become An Actor: ‘Wanted To Leave Mumbai After Doing 1 Film’

In a surprising revelation, Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi recently opened up about how acting was never part of his original plan. Known for his intense roles and a unique space in the industry, Emraan shared that he never intended to face the camera — in fact, he wanted to work behind it.

Recently, Emraan appeared on YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast and revealed he never wanted to become an actor.

“I think the profession found me rather than me seeking the journey of becoming an actor. These happy accidents happen in people’s lives. I wanted to walk a different path, but this offer came my way and I became an actor. I was not comfortable with the process of acting initially. If you have the mindset that you want to become an actor, then it becomes easier. This film industry and all the new things can become overwhelming if you’re not prepared for it. That’s what happened to me,” Emraan shared.

The actor, who made his debut in 2003 with Footpath, recalled how the initial years were full of hesitation and self-doubt. His passion, he said, was always rooted in the technical side of filmmaking.

“I never felt that I was cut off to face the camera. Main jaana chahta tha visual effects and graphics mein, everything behind the scenes. I wanted to become a director at one point of time. Never wanted to be an actor. It took me a few years to be sure-footed in the acting space. But it was great. It was a sense of discovery. People loving you without knowing you is also a weird feeling,” he added.

Emraan’s first stardom experience

He also shared a vivid memory from his early days – the moment he experienced stardom for the first time.

During the same conversation, he said, “It was at Metro Cinema where I had gone for the first show of Footpath. I was hoping people would notice me, and it happened in the canteen during the intermission. Half the theatre came outside, and that was my first mob experience. I felt, okay, this fandom is nice. Before that, I was thinking I’d just do this one film and then leave Bombay to go to the USA to pursue graphics and VFX.”

Meanwhile, on the work front, Emraan is busy with the promotions of Ground Zero in which he will be seen as BSF Deputy Commandant Narendra Nath Dube. The film is all set to hit the big screens on April 25.

He also has films like They Call Him OG, G2 and Awarapan 2 in the pipeline.
