As summer vacations have begun, crowds have started flocking to the Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park in KatrajThe zoo is home to around 66 species of wildlife, including mammals, birds and reptilesThe 130-acre space is divided into three parts: an animal orphanage, a snake park, and a zoo. It also includes a 42-acre lakeThe biggest attractions here are the white tiger and the white peacockAs per the official website, the zoo is home to 16 reptile species, 22 mammal species and four bird speciesTo accommodate the rising footfall this summer, the zoo has extended its visiting hours by half an hour—from 9:30am to 5:30pmAccording to Dr Rajkumar Jadhav, the zoo director, the zoo sees a daily footfall of 4,000 to 18,000 visitors during the summer, with numbers rising on weekendsSeveral arrangements have been made to assist visitors during the summer heat. These include battery-operated cars for internal transport, drinking water facilities, toilet blocks, resting sheds and seating areasFor added convenience, free Wi-Fi is also available at key locations within the zooThe zoo is closed on Wednesdays
