Thane News: 60-Year-Old Man Injured After Ceiling Slab Collapses In Ulhasnagar; Building Sealed By Authorities

Thane: A 60-year-old man was injured when the concrete ceiling slab of the first floor of the building collapsed in Ulhasnagar on Tuesday night. The injured man has been identified as Rajkumar Duseja, who lived on the first floor of the ground plus four storied Atma Prakash building in Ulhasnagar.

The 29-year-old Atma Prakash building has a total of seven flats and three shops. The incident took place at 8:30 PM on Tuesday when Duseja was watching TV in the hall of his first-floor flat.

The residents of the building immediately alerted the police, fire brigade, and Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, who then rushed to the spot, evacuated the residents of the building, and sealed the building. The injured were retrieved from the first floor and taken to a nearby hospital where he was discharged after the treatment.

Ganesh Shimpi, Assistant Municipal Commissioner of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, said, “Our team received information about the incident and rushed to the spot, rescuing a man who was feared to be trapped under a slab. We have evacuated all residents from their flats due to safety reasons. We will not allow anyone into the building until an engineer has inspected the structure to determine whether it is habitable or not. We asked the residents to conduct an audit of the building’s structure and submit their report to the Corporation.”

A resident from the Atma Prakash building said, “The floor slab of the second floor collapsed onto the first floor, where Duseja was watching TV and got trapped under the debris. Later, the rescue team managed to pull him out and sent him to a nearby hospital for treatment.”
