Kolkata: West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Saturday visited strife torn Jafrabad in Samserganj in Murshidabad district and other areas in Murshidabad to take stock of the ground reality.
Talking to the media after visiting the affected families and family members of deceased Haragobinda and Chandan Das, Bose said that the incident that took place is ‘bizarre and barbaric’.

“I have spoken with everyone. I had contradictory reports. What I understood is that a particular community is trying to establish force on another community. I will give my assessments to the necessary quarters. The people here have lost hope and trust in the system. I will share my reports with both the central and the state government but can’t say anything in the public domain,” said Bose.

Notably. Haragobinda Das and his son Chandan Das were killed when people were protesting against the WAQF (Amendment) bill. National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), National Commission for Women (NCW) also visited Murshidabad and people, especially women were seen crying and were demanding permanent camp of BSF in the areas.
Incidentally, on April 17, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had asked Governor CV Ananda Bose not to visit Murshidabad as the situation is gradually becoming normal.

People in the Betbona area in Murshidabad started protesting after the Governor skipped that area but later the Governor visited the area to take stock of the place.
A woman crying in the Dhuliyan area in Murshidabad said, “We don’t want Lakshmir Bhandar but we want to demand resignation of Chief Minister Banerjee as she is behind everything.” Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took protest rallies across the city over the ‘communal violence’ in Murshidabad.
Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari mentioned that the relief camp’s where the riot-hit people are kept have turned into ‘detention’ camps and relatives are not allowed to meet those who are in the relief camps.

“Hindus should get united or else this place will be like Pakistan or Afghanistan. Places where Hindus, Sikhs, Parsis where majority in both Pakistan or Afghanistan is taken away from them. The state government is showing its inhuman face and is not allowing the NGOs to interact with the displaced people. They are being served poor-quality rice and cooked vegetables,” alleged Adhikari.

Countering Adhikari, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh claimed that opposition parties, especially BJP is not allowing normalcy to return in the state.
