Bengaluru: Ricky Rai, son of former underworld don and founder of pro-Kannada organisation Jaya Karnataka late Muthappa Rai, was injured when unidentified assailants opened fire at him while he was travelling in a SUV car from his Bidadi farm house to Bengaluru around 1.30 a.m. on Saturday (April 19).
Ricky Rai was seated in the rear along with his gunman when the bullet pierced through the driver’s seat, injuring both the driver and Rai. Both were admitted to a hospital and are said to be out of danger. The reason behind the gun attack is yet to be known.

Who Is Ricky Rai?
Ricky Rai’s father,Muthappa Rai was born in Puttur, Karnataka. He was married to Rekha and has two sons. His wife Rekha died in 2013. Muthappa Rai, who died in 2020, also made his appearance in a Tulu movie. He is also the founder of Jaya Karnataka a not-for-profit organisation that aims at improving the quality of life of the people of Karnataka
Ricky Rai is named in several cases and had rivalry with many gangsters in Karnataka. He was known to be settled overseas and had returned to Bengaluru recently, according to The Hindu.
What Ricky Rai’s Driver Said
Rai’s driver said it was rare that Ricky who usually drives himself, handed him the wheel that night. “Ricky Rai, who was sitting behind, had a broken nose, and his face was all messed up. We took him to a nearby hospital in the same car. He was later taken in an ambulance to the Manipal Hospital after efforts were made to stop the bleeding,” read the driver’s complaint.
Ricky Rai is currently undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru.
Police Action
The police said a case has been registered and efforts are being made to nab the suspects. Police has named his stepmother Anuradha & two others in the FIR.
Home Minister Reacts
Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara reacting to the attack said, “The concerned police officer has been directed to provide further details. At present, Ricky Rai has not suffered any serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bengaluru. The reason behind the gun attack is yet to be ascertained. The police are investigating.”
