According to the protesters, the demonstration was held because they believed that Mamata Banerjee had insulted a Chief Minister from their state. Though specific details of the alleged insult were not mentioned during the protest, the group said they would not tolerate any disrespect towards their leaders. The protesters shouted slogans such as “Mamata Banerjee Haye Haye” (Down with Mamata Banerjee) and demanded an apology from her.

When police tried to stop the group from burning the effigy, the situation became tense. The protesters refused to back down and instead, began arguing with the police.

Several women protesters showed bangles to the police, a symbolic gesture often used in Indian protests to question someone’s courage or manhood, suggesting that the police were not doing enough to protect their state’s pride.

One female protester went a step further and removed the official cap (known as a “peak cap”) from a police sub-inspector who was on duty. This was seen as a serious act of disrespect towards the police.

Another protester took off a flower garland from his own neck and placed it on a police officer, saying, “You are allowing our people to be insulted in our own country.” This gesture was aimed at questioning the police’s loyalty and action in the matter.

The police tried to control the crowd and avoid any escalation of violence. However, the protesters continued to raise slogans and argue. Despite efforts to manage the situation peacefully, the crowd’s actions led to high tensions.

So far, there is no information about any arrests or injuries during the protest. There are also no reports of any FIR being registered in connection with the matter. Police are reviewing video footage of the incident to identify individuals who are involved in disrespecting the police officer.
