Mumbai News: Western Railway Installs 5 Girders For Wankhede Stadium’s South Foot Overbridge In 3-Hour Overnight Operation

Mumbai: A major milestone was achieved early on Saturday in the construction of a second foot overbridge (FOB) for access to the Wankhede Stadium, as five massive steel girders were successfully installed across active railway tracks.

Positioned at the southern end of the stadium, this new FOB complements the one completed last month at the northern end, significantly enhancing accessibility to the stadium.

A Western Railway (WR) official said, “Five steel girders, each measuring 41.80 metres, were launched for the Wankhede South foot overbridge, located between Churchgate and Marine Lines stations. The entire installation was completed in just three hours—from 1:15 am to 4:15 am on April 20—using a 700-metric-tonne road crane.”

Confirming the development, a senior officer of WR said, “Girder launching work is completed. Now, 4 staircase and other finishing work are remaind, which will be completed in the next 2 months. After that, the foot overbridge will be ready for use.”
