Bhopal Youth Accused Of Mocking Pahalgam Attack On Social Media, Found Innocent

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A widely circulated negative social media post regarding Pahalgam terror attacks by a Bhopal youth turned out to be false during investigation by crime branch police officials.

The youth identified as Zeeshan Khan had condemned a post mocking the death of a lieutenant colonel in the attack. However, the post was edited with claims that Zeeshan was making fun of his death.

Crime branch police became active after someone tagged the screenshot of the Facebook post to Bhopal police on X and rounded up Zeeshan for questioning on Wednesday.

According to reports, Hanumanganj resident and student Zeeshan Khan came across a post on Facebook in which a user Doteswar Ranchiwala mocked the photograph in which wife of a lieutenant colonel is seen sitting near his body after terror attack at Pahalgam. Zeeshan re-posted the photograph while condemning the mocking of the colonel’s death.

However, Zeeshan’s original post was edited while hiding the name of Doteswar Ranchiwala and its screenshot was circulated in his name on social media.

There was a backlash from social media users against Zeeshan and they demanded to trace and arrest him.

DCP (crime) Akhil Patel said police took cognisance of the social media post and traced Zeeshan’s address. He was questioned regarding the post and his mobile phone was checked thoroughly.

However, prima facie he was not found involved in making the objectionable post regarding the tragic incident at Pahalgam. Efforts were underway to trace and arrest the person who made the original objectionable post on social media, DCP added.

Zeeshan updated his original and the edited post on Facebook giving clarification regarding the issue.
