Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): The prestigious Tansen Festival, a major classical music event, is set to commence in Gwalior on December 15, marking its 100th edition.
The event will feature over 100 performances by renowned artists from India and countries like Japan, Italy, Israel, and France.
The festival will be inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. Traditional rituals at the Tansen Tomb, such as shehnai playing and spiritual recitations, will kick off the festivities.
Over the next five days, more than 100 music performances will take place.
The highlight will be the Tansen Award ceremony on December 18, where the renowned tabla player Pandit Swapan Chaudhary will be honored. The event is organized by the Ustad Alauddin Khan Music and Art Academy, along with the Madhya Pradesh Culture Council, in collaboration with district administration and the Municipal Corporation.
This year’s celebrations will feature not just the usual musical performances but also various tributes to Tansen across different parts of India. The event promises to be a grand and historic affair, bringing together the best of global and local talent in the world of classical music.
