Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has shifted the transport commissioner after corruption reported in the department raised dust across the central state.
CM Yadav transferred DP Gupta and posted ADG (planning) Vivek Sharma as commissioner of the Transport Department on Thursday. Gupta was posted as ADG in the police headquarters.
Gupta was made transport commissioner in February last year (2024). He was transferred from the position within 11 months of his posting.
Major corruption came to light in department
The decision to transfer Gupta was taken after the raids carried out on the residential premises of a former RTO constable of the Transport Department, Saurabh Sharma. During the raids, a major corruption came to light and investigations are still ongoing in the matter.
Madhya Pradesh government received complaints even after the closure of check posts and starting of check points, extortion by officials of the department continued.
After the sleuths of the Special Police Establishment (SPE) of Lokayukta raided the residential premises of a former constable of the Transport Department Saurabh Sharma, rampant corruption in the department was exposed.
Because corruption in the department raised a storm across the country, the Chief Minister has tried to convey a message by removing the commissioner.
