Navi Mumbai crime branch along with Sanpada police are jointly investigating the case of firing that happened on Friday morning at Sanpada opposite D Mart wherein a APMC Contractor was shot at. The contractor identified as Rajaram Dhoke (48), a resident of Ghatkopar had come to Sanpada for some work. “He was having tea in his car when two unidentified men came on a bike and shot at him from a close range. Of the five shots, three got hit and he was injured. He is said to be stable now,” deputy commissioner of police (Zone I) Pankaj Dahane said.
Multiple teams have been formed by the police to investigate the case. “We have got cctv footage wherein the person riding the bike is seen wearing a helmet and the pillion rider who shot at Dhoke has covered his face with a cloth. We suspect that the attempt to murder has happened out of personal rivalry. It could also be over getting the contract that Dhoke had procured,” senior police inspector Devidas Kathale said. Dhoke had gone for some work at the Sanpada ward office of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and after the work, he sat in the car and was having tea when he was shot at. Dhoke undertook the contract of collecting the waste vegetables in the APMC market and further distributing it to various gaushalas.
“I was having tea in the stall when I heard some sound. Initially we thought that some glass of the vehicle broke but when we checked, we saw injured man in the car and then we took him to Vashi hospital and also informed the control room,” Chinta Hanumant Jaydev, an eye witness to the incident said.
