Congress Leaders Demand Action Against Land Mafia
Dhar (Madhya Pradesh): Congress leaders have raised serious concerns about the growing influence of land mafia in Dhar district during the BJP rule, claiming that these illegal operators are acting with impunity due to alleged connections with higher-level ministers.
District Congress spokesperson Ajay Dr Manohar Singh Thakur and councillor Barsaat Sisodia highlighted illegal excavation activities being conducted by land mafia at Moonj pond in Chhatripura. Despite government proposals to relocate old settlements within a 300-metre perimeter of Moonj Sagar and Devi Sagar ponds, illegal activities persist.
Thakur noted that previous attempts by the land mafia to excavate the area were halted through local awareness and official intervention. However, on a recent Saturday night, the mafia reportedly resumed illegal excavation using heavy machinery, damaging nearby homes due to vibrations.
The situation poses a significant risk, as the excavation has created a large pit that could lead to the pond bursting, endangering thousands of lives in Dhar. Local leaders have demanded an investigation into the land mafia and officials involved, calling for strict action and the filling of the pit. They warned of potential protests if immediate measures are not taken to ensure public safety.
