Less than 24 hours after two bike-borne men snatched the mangalsutra of a 58-year-old woman, leaving her in an injured state, personnel from the crime branch unit (zone I) attached to the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police have managed to nab both the culprits within 24 hours for their involvement in the crime.
According to the police the incident was reported from a road behind the L.R.Tiwari College in Mira Road. The woman was on her regular morning-walk when two bike-borne men stopped behind her at around 6:30 am on Friday.

The pillion rider got down from the bike, rushed towards the woman and pounced on her to successfully snatch her gold mangalsutra worth Rs.2.50 lakh. While the duo fled the spot, the woman who lost her balance fell down during the snatching incident and suffered injuries to her hands and leg. The entire sequence of events was captured by the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the vicinity of the crime scene. After procuring images of the culprits from the CCTV footage, a team from the crime branch unit led by police inspector- Pramod Badhakh activated their core informer network.
Based on a tip-off, the team apprehended both the accused who have been identified as- Ramu Rajnat (25) and Sunil Sanjay Raj (22)-residents of Mira Road. However, the ornament is yet to be recovered from the duo against whom an offence under section 309 (4) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for robbery has been registered at the Mira Road police station.
Not ruling out the duo’s involvement in more similar offences committed by them in and around the region, a team from the Mira Road police station is conducting further investigations.
