Mumbai’s nature lovers and art enthusiasts have an opportunity to blend creativity with wildlife appreciation at “Sketching Around Flamingos,” an outdoor art session organized by the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS).
Taking place on Saturday evening, April 19, the session invites participants to immerse themselves in the wetlands and capture the elegance of flamingos in their signature pink hues.
Led by artist Ashvini Menon, the event is designed for beginners and will focus on simple, effective sketching techniques. Attendees can expect to see Greater and Lesser Flamingos, as well as other striking bird species like the Painted Stork and Indian Shag, while learning to create expressive wetland landscapes.
The trail is rated easy and involves a gentle 2–3 km walk. Participants are to report at 4:00 p.m. in front of the underpass entrance near TS Chanakya, Nerul. The session will conclude by 6:00 p.m.
The participation fee is ₹700 for BNHS members and ₹800 for non-members. The cost covers BNHS expertise and any necessary entry or permission charges.
Participants are advised to bring oil pastels (12 shades), 6B or 8B pencils, an eraser, drawing papers or a sketchbook, and a cloth, mat, or newspaper to sit on. Sun protection gear such as sunscreen, sunglasses, and a cap is also recommended. Those who prefer other art materials may bring what they are comfortable using, as long as it is suitable for a trail.
